Christopher Thompson is a Professor of History at Ball State University in Indiana (USA), where he teaches French, European, and World History.  In addition to articles on the social, cultural, and political history of cycling in France, he is the author of The Tour de France:  A Cultural History (University of California Press, 2006; paperback, 2008).
